Yes, we are still here…Spencer’s Treasures continues to spread “The Joy of a Simple Toy!”
You may or may not know that our family now lives in Kansas City, Missouri. After much thought and consideration, we decided to raise our 10 year old, Jacob and 3 year old Samantha closer to both of our families. (Both Ron and I were raised here in the mid-west.) The change has been good, but we still miss our friends and Spencer’s Treasures’ families in Southern California.
I am still running Spencer’s Treasures via internet and cell phone with the help of wonderful friends and volunteers in California. Dean and Denise Hopkins have been the biggest help with our toy deliveries and we are very grateful for their help and support!
I was in California last month to help with CHOC’s NSI Patient Christmas Party. This was our seventh year to be involved. The party was held at Children’s Hospital of Orange County and the guests were patients of Dr. Muhonen, a Pediatric Neurosurgeon. Children that received an invasive procedure that year received the invitation to see Santa, get a toy, have lunch and spend a fun afternoon with their families. We took Spencer in 1999, when he was in the heat-of-the-battle of fighting his brain tumor. (I’m pictured below with Dr. Muhonen)
This year we provided games, prizes and “I’m a Treasure!” t-shirts for the patients. Our t-shirt sponsor this year was Casco Contractors, owned and operated by Jeff and Cheryl Osborn. They are friends of ours that knew Spencer in our old Huntington Beach neighborhood. (So, Thanks guys for your continued support!!)
We’ve settled into our new environment and home and now its on to 2008! So, please refer back to this blog and our website: www.SpencersTreasures.org for Toy Drive information, Drop-Off locations and contact numbers. (we have new phone numbers and mailing addresses)
Keep Those Toys Comin’ and we’ll help spread the JOY!
